Violas Hermit Crab (C. violascens) is another hermit crab species and smaller version of Indo Hermit Crab (C. brevimanus). Also its estimated life span is up to 10 years, sadly there is no reliable information on this topic yet.
Hermit Crabs are not fully fresh water animals, so they need both types of water, fresh water and marine water – so you should keep two bowls in vivarium in the same time and clean them twice a week. Also do not use tap water as it is chlorinated what is deadly for crabs, let it settle for 1-2 days before use first.
Also water bowls should be deep enough to let animals fully submerge.
As substrate can be used any clean river sand or aquarium sand and cocos with layer of dried leaf litter. Substrate depth is 5-15 cm as they are burrowing.
Feeding should be once per day, they are feeding on vegetables, fruits, meat and seafood, aquarium fish food. Calcium source is a must – cuttlefish bone or plain white chalk will do the job perfectly.
It is also recommended to keep crabs in groups of a least 3 specimens as they are highly social species.
