Holthuisana lipkei inhabits banks of freshwater streams and rivers, where it creates burrows in soft moist soil.
As most of other crab species H. lipkei is omnivorous, so it can eat literally anything made from organic (i.e. vegetables, fruits, algae, insects, fish, fish food etc).
Breeding in captivity is possible as this species has direct development without planktonic larval stage, so after fertilisation female will attach eggs (up to 200 per clutch) beneath its abdomen for 4-6 weeks.
